CHANTS/MIXES

Wotagei means "wota (idol fan) art". It refers to a type of dancing and cheering gestures performed by a wota. These involve jumping, clapping, arm-waving and chanting. Here you will learn how to do the chants / the MIXes.

The MIXes

The MIXes are the chants the fans shout during lots of mid and high tempo of most AKB48 songs and only shouted when there isn't any singing, like at the beginning of the song, or during the instrumental parts as it helps to build up the intensity of the show without interrupting the girls. And it's also more organised than random shouting from the fans. Also doing a MIX during a sad, slow, and especially ballad songs is considered unacceptable.

Note: The words in the MIXes actually have no relation whatsoever to the lyrics of the song.

The standard Mix

The Standard MIX is the one commonly used in AKB48 songs. It is shouted at the at the start of the song, and ends just before the members start singing.

You first start with "Aaaa Yossha Ikuzo!", meaning "HERE WE GO!!!", then start the MIX. It is like a indication to MIX.

  • Aaaa

  • Yossha Ikuzo!

  • Taiga (Tiger)

  • Faiya (Fire)

  • Saiba (Cyber)

  • Faiba (Fiber)

  • Daiba (Diver)

  • Baiba (Viber)

  • Jya Jya!

The Japanese Mix

The Japanese MIX is used in the 2nd instrumental of the song. In some cases it is used at the beginning of the song. The only exception is in Ponytail to Shushu where you shout MIX 1 and 2 in the first instrumental, but you still shout the 2nd MIX in the 2nd instrumental. It is never used by it's own and is always after MIX 1.

Unlike the Standard MIX, for the Japanese (and Ainu) MIXes you start off with "Mou Iccho Ikuzo!", which means "HERE WE GO ONE MORE TIME!!!"

  • Aaaa

  • Mou Iccho Ikuzo!

  • Tora

  • Hii

  • Jinzou

  • Seni

  • Ama

  • Shindou

  • Kasen-tobi-jokyo!

The Ainu Mix

The third MIX isn't used much, but is still important. The reason why it isn't used much is because it is only shouted during the 3rd instrumental of a song, or in a song with a long 2nd instrumental, and few songs have those.

Songs with MIX 3 include: Beginner, Ponytail to Shushu, Kimi no Koto ga Suki Dakara, Wagamama na Nagareboshi, Shonichi, Kodoku na Runner.

  • Aaaa

  • Mou Iccho Ikuzo!

  • Chape

  • Ape

  • Kara

  • Kira (Kina)

  • Rara

  • Tusuke

  • Myohontusuke!

Overture Mix / 3 Ren MIX

It is used in the Overture. Note that you don't do the "Aaaa Mou Iccho Ikuzo!" at the start of the Japanese MIX since that's just an indication to start the MIX.

However for MNL48, we use the adapted overture MIX which is almost the same:

Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai! Hai! Ahhhhhh Hai! Hai! Haihaihaihai! / Taiga, Faiya, Saiba, Faiba, Daiba, Baiba, Jya Jya!!! / Torah, Hii, Jinzou, Sen-ii, Ama, Shindou, Kasentobijokyo!!! / Chape, Ape, Kara, Kira, Rara, Tusuke, Moyhontusuke!!! / M! N! L! Forty Eight! soresoresoresore!

Gachikoi Koujou

It’s not exactly a call or mix, but more of a speech: actually, gachikoi koujou means something like “truly in love speech”. You hear it quite a bit and it seems to be getting more and more popular, probably because of its usage in 47 no Suteki na Machi e.

Iitai koto ga, arun da yo! (Nani nani?) 言いたいことが、あるんだよ!(なになに?)
Yappari (name) wa, kawaii yo! (Nani nani?) やっぱり◯◯◯は、かわいいよ!(なになに?)
Suki suki daisuki, yappa suki! (Nani nani?) 好き好き大好き、やっぱ好き!(なになに?)
Yatto mitsuketa, ohimesama (Nani nani?) やっと見つけた、お姫様(なになに?)
Ore ga umarete, kita riyuu (Nani nani?) 俺が生まれて、きた理由(なになに?)
Sore wa omae ni, deau tame (Nani nani?) それはお前に、出会うため(なになに?)
Ore to issho ni, jinsei ayumou (Nani nani?) 俺と一緒に、人生歩もう(なになに?)
Sekai de ichiban, aishiteru! 世界で一番、愛してる!
A, i, shi, te, ru! ア、イ、シ、テ、ル!

Name calls

When there is a short break between solo lines, you shout the nickname of the member singing. Sometimes it is also shouted during duet lines. It is up to you to choose which member to shout for.

For example:

Maeda Atsuko's name call is "A-CCHAN!" (or if you like, Sheki Arizaga is "SHE-KI!"), but for Takahashi Minami, it's "MI-NA-MI!" (or if it's Alice de Leon, "ALICE!" or better yet "A-RI-SU!")

Calls

In some songs you shout out certain stuff at certain points of time. Some examples:

  • Skirt Hirari (aka Umiindak na Saya): "sekai de ichiban suki na no" at the same time the girls sing it.

  • Oogoe Diamond: "suki!!" together with the girls when they sing it (sukitte kotoba wa saikou sa).

  • RIVER: "Got it!", "RIVER!!!!" and the whole chant in the beginning together with the girls.

  • 10nen Zakura & Seifuku ga Jama wo Suru: at the start you shout "OGS". Lots of people make the mistake and shout "fourty-eight", this is wrong.

  • Kimi no Koto ga Suki Dakara: "daisuki" and "yoroshiku" same time as when the girls sing it.

  • Namida Surprise: "3, 2, 1, GO!" same time as when the girls sing it.

  • Heavy Rotation: "I want you, I need you, I love you" etc. after they sing it.

Hand Movements

There are 3 main movements

  • Lightstick movement: This is basic. Just wave your lightsticks according to the beat

  • Furicopi: For this, you just copy the member's hand movements.

  • Kecha: This is the tricky one. Generally the movement is both hands sweeping upwards towards your oshimen. Usually done when the song slows down.

Here is an example from the sources of this guide:

1. You extend both arms, hands outstretched, toward the member(s) singing.
1.5. If you are holding a lightstick, you don't have to open your hands.
2. Slowly bring both arms upwards.
3. Bring you hands back toward you.
4. Repeat steps 1 to 3
